Tasting note

Boysenberry and dark cherry meet violet, rose, and exotic spice. The medium-bodied palate adds plum, black currant, dried cranberry, blueberry, cured meat, espresso, fine tannins, fresh acidity, licorice, and warm spice.

The 2022 vintage

A cool winter delayed the 2022 growing season, while later rain protected the canopy through summer heat. Lower yields produced aromatic fruit with balanced tannins.

About Boekenhoutskloof

The fruit was whole-berry fermented in concrete and stainless steel before spontaneous fermentation and 12 to 14 months in mostly seasoned French barriques.

Pairing suggestions

Cellared suggestions based on the wine and dish descriptions.

Rosemary-grilled lamb

Lamb's savory char meets the Syrah-led blend's cured-meat, dark-fruit, and warm-spice notes.

Mushroom and lentil ragout

Earthy mushrooms and lentils complement the wine's licorice and spice while respecting its medium body.

Aged Gouda

Gouda's nutty saltiness frames the espresso note and fine tannins without turning the pairing sweet.
