Where it is, June 2026

Too Young: holding.

In 2026, this is still an infant. The wine is closed, brooding, and unwilling to give much up yet. The famed Margaux perfume is there but shy. You can catch it in glimpses. Tannins remain substantial and the mid-palate hasn't fully knit. This is a bottle to lay down, not open. If you must, decant for 4+ hours.

The 15 Grand Vin.

A landmark vintage for the Left Bank and one of the great Margaux bottlings of the century.

Tasting note

Deep ruby with a slow-climbing rim. The nose, when coaxed, lifts with violets, black cherry, graphite, and a distinct note of crushed rose petal that has been a Margaux signature for centuries. The palate is seamless: cassis, dark plum, and black tea wrapped around tannins that are simultaneously powerful and silken. Acidity is vibrant and the finish is astonishingly long, with a mineral echo that lingers for nearly a minute.

The 2015 vintage

2015 is widely considered the finest Left Bank vintage since 2010 and the greatest Margaux vintage of the 21st century so far. A warm, dry summer was followed by a cool August that preserved acidity, and a picture-perfect harvest window. The Margaux appellation, which had struggled in several prior vintages, delivered uniformly stunning wines. Critics have compared the top 2015 Margaux wines to legendary vintages like 1990 and 1982.

About Château Margaux

Château Margaux is one of the five First Growths of the 1855 Bordeaux Classification. The Grand Vin represents only the finest parcels of each vintage, with everything else declassified into Pavillon Rouge or sold off in bulk. The estate is known for an aromatic, almost ethereal style, often called 'the most feminine of the First Growths' in traditional wine vocabulary.

From the cellar: pair with

Roast rack of lamb with herbs de Provence

Lamb's gentle gaminess and the herbal crust are a textbook match for aged Margaux's perfume.

Filet mignon with bordelaise

The classic pairing: the sauce's own red-wine reduction creates a direct flavor bridge.

Truffled risotto

Truffle and aged Bordeaux share earthy, forest-floor aromatics; the dish's richness cushions the wine's structure.

Frequently Asked

Is 2015 Château Margaux ready to drink?

No. The wine is still in its primary phase and will not enter its drinking window until approximately 2028. Peak expression is projected between 2035 and 2055.

How long will 2015 Margaux age?

First-growth Bordeaux from great vintages routinely ages 40-60 years. The 2015 has the structure (acidity, tannin, concentration) to match or exceed that. Expect a drinking window through approximately 2065.

What is the best way to store 2015 Margaux?

Constant 55°F (13°C), 60-70% humidity, on its side, away from light and vibration. For a wine at this price point and aging horizon, a passive or climate-controlled cellar is strongly recommended, not a standard wine fridge.

Should I buy 2015 Margaux to drink or to invest?

Both cases are valid. As a drinking wine it will reward 10+ years of patience. As an investment, 2015 Margaux has appreciated steadily and is considered one of the most collectible Bordeaux releases of the past decade.
