At Peak: in the heart of its drinking window (2016-2037).
In 2026 this 2009 Kayli Morgan is firmly mid-peak, drinking beautifully with years of plateau still in front of it. The window opened around 2014 as the early grip relaxed, and the wine entered its peak in 2016, a peak that runs all the way to 2037. Slow decline does not set in until 2046, so there is no urgency here. A bottle pulled now shows fully resolved primary fruit edging into secondary complexity, with the velvety tannins (8) softened and the body (9) still plush. You can pour it tonight or hold it confidently for another decade.

Tasting note
The 2009 Kayli Morgan is a voluptuous, generous expression of the vineyard, with warm-vintage aromatics of blackberry preserve, dark plum, mocha, and toasted cedar. The palate is expansive and giving, with saturated fruit wrapped in velvety tannins and balanced by surprising freshness. The body is full and coating (9 of 10), pushing waves of cassis and macerated berry across the mid-palate, while the firm tannins (8 of 10) give that opulence a velvety frame rather than a hard edge. Moderate acidity (5 of 10) keeps the fruit lifted and stops the richness from turning heavy, threading a line of freshness through the warm, plush core. Mocha, sweet baking spice, and toasted cedar carry into a long, layered finish that lingers on dark fruit and fine, dusty grip.
The 2009 vintage
2009 was the coolest of its run of Napa vintages and one of the more challenging, with a mild, steady summer rather than the usual stretch of 100-degree days. Cabernet ripened cleanly until a pair of October storms forced growers to choose between picking early or betting on a return of warm weather. The estate sites that navigated that late, cool harvest delivered a surprise bounty of pure, ripe, opulent wines. Wine Spectator scored the vintage 96 and called it 'Classic,' a drink-or-hold year that rewards both the patient and the impatient.
About Hundred Acre
Hundred Acre is the micro-production Napa house founded by Jayson Woodbridge, who built a cult following from his St. Helena cellar with tiny, fiercely selective lots. Kayli Morgan is the estate single-vineyard bottling, planted to Cabernet between St. Helena and Calistoga along the Silverado Trail. From its first vintage it has been a plush, velvety, full-throttle Cabernet, and allocation is tight enough that demand routinely outstrips supply.
From the cellar: pair with
Dry-aged ribeye with a peppercorn crust
The marbled fat and char meet the firm tannins (8) head-on, softening that grip while the full body (9) stands up to a rich, beefy cut without being overwhelmed.
Braised short rib with mushroom and red wine jus
The unctuous, savory braise mirrors the wine's plush body (9), and the moderate acidity (5) cuts through the fat and jus to keep each bite fresh and lifted.
Aged hard cheeses such as Comte or 24-month Parmigiano
Salty, crystalline cheeses coat the palate so the structured tannins (8) read as velvety, while the modest acidity (5) and full body (9) match their concentrated, nutty intensity.
Service & cellaring
- Serving Temp
- 60-64F (16-18C)
- Decanting
- Decant 60 to 90 minutes before serving. At mid-peak the firm tannins (8) are velvety but still benefit from air, which opens the warm-vintage aromatics and lets the saturated fruit and mocha unfurl. A wide decanter suits the full body (9); the moderate acidity (5) means it will not fade quickly once open, so an early pour is forgiving.
- Cellar Storage
- 55F (13C), 60-70% humidity, bottle on its side.
The drinking window on this bottle is calculated with the Cellared Ageability Index (CAI) v1.0, a 10-factor model. Try the free drinking window calculator on any wine, or read when to drink wine for the practical signals.

Frequently Asked
When should I drink the 2009 Hundred Acre Kayli Morgan?
Now through roughly 2037 is the sweet spot. The wine opened in 2014 and reached its peak plateau in 2016, and in 2026 it sits mid-peak, fully drinkable yet a decade away from slow decline around 2046. Open it tonight or hold with confidence.
Should I decant this wine?
Yes. Give it 60 to 90 minutes in a decanter. Even at mid-peak the firm tannins (8) and full body (9) reward air, which lifts the warm-vintage aromas of blackberry preserve, mocha, and cedar and lets the saturated fruit expand and soften on the palate.
What food pairs best with it?
Reach for rich, savory mains: dry-aged ribeye, braised short rib, or aged hard cheeses. The firm tannins (8) want fat and protein, the full body (9) needs a substantial dish, and the moderate acidity (5) keeps heavier sauces from feeling cloying.
Can I keep cellaring it, or is it fading?
It is nowhere near fading. With peak running to 2037 and hard decline not arriving until 2046, you have years of healthy plateau left. Store it at 55F (13C), 60-70% humidity, bottle on its side, and it will hold and evolve gracefully.
