About Ovid
Ovid is a small Pritchard Hill estate focused on site-driven Napa Cabernet and red blends. The winery takes its name from the Roman poet of transformation. Tiny production, high-elevation farming on rocky volcanic soils, and an ethos of winemaking transparency have earned Ovid a following among collectors seeking Napa wines with intellectual depth and distinctive mountain character. The Experiment series explores blending and varietal possibilities from the estate's specific hillside terroir.
Food Pairings
Grilled tri-tip with chimichurri
The wine's fresh plum, blackberry, and red tobacco notes pair naturally with grilled beef, and the herb-forward chimichurri echoes the wine's structural freshness.
Smoked duck breast with black cherry compote
The wine's dark cherry and chocolate character align with the richness of smoked duck, while the compote mirrors its plum fruit core.
Artisan aged cheddar with fig jam
The wine's round texture and blackberry fruit bridge the sharpness of aged cheddar, and fig jam extends the wine's fruit register naturally.

Frequently Asked
What is the Experiment series from Ovid?
Ovid's Experiment series is a small-production exploration of blending possibilities and varietal expressions from the estate's Pritchard Hill vineyards. Each wine is labeled with a number code representing its compositional formula, reflecting the winery's analytical, transparent approach to winemaking.
How does this compare to the Ovid Napa Valley Red Wine?
The Experiment N6.1 is a more approachable expression than the flagship Napa Valley Red Wine - fresher, lighter in its tannin structure, and showing earlier in its youth. Both are Cabernet Sauvignon-led, but the Experiment explores a different set of blending components.
Is 2026 a good time to open the 2021?
The window is open, and the wine is enjoyable now with decanting. However, peak drinking starts in 2029. If you have multiple bottles, open one now to assess, and hold the rest for 2029-2035 for fuller expression.
What makes Pritchard Hill wines distinctive?
Pritchard Hill sits at high elevation above Lake Hennessey in eastern Napa Valley on rocky volcanic soils. The combination of elevation, drainage, and volcanic minerality produces wines of tighter structure, mineral precision, and longer aging curves than many valley-floor Napa Cabernets.
