Peak 2031-2046

Where it is, June 2026

Approaching Peak: drinkable, but best years are ahead.

In May 2026, the 2019 La Grande Rue Grand Cru is in a fascinating transitional moment. The window opened in 2026, meaning the wine is just now becoming accessible, yet it is already showing extraordinary beauty in the glass for those willing to explore it. The primary floral and red fruit aromas are vivid and pristine, and the fine-grained tannins have not closed the wine down in the way that more structured Burgundy vintages sometimes do. This is a 2019, and the vintage's generosity means the wine is approachable and genuinely pleasurable today. That said, the peak window runs from 2031 through 2046, and those with patience will be rewarded with greater depth, secondary aromatics, and even more seamless integration. Serve from a single bottle without decanting, or decant briefly if you wish. The wine will also evolve beautifully in the glass over a two to three hour dinner.

The 19 La Grande Rue Grand Cru Monopole.

A monopole grand cru of ethereal beauty, combining rose-petal florality and crushed-rock minerality in an exquisitely poised 2019 Vosne-Romanee.

Tasting note

La Grande Rue is the only monopole grand cru in Vosne-Romanee, a narrow strip of premier vineyard land that runs between Romanee-Conti to the west and La Tache to the east, and Domaine Lamarche has held exclusive ownership since 1992 when it was elevated to grand cru status. The 2019 vintage from this extraordinary site is a wine of exceptional beauty and precision. On the nose it is ethereal and deeply floral, leading with rose petal, wild raspberry, and a delicate crushed strawberry that seems to shimmer above the glass. Beneath the floral brightness there is a core of quintessential Vosne aromatics: iron filings, crushed rock, damp forest floor, and a subtle violet that connects the fruit to the mineral depths below. The palate is medium-bodied with the lithe, almost airy quality that distinguishes great Vosne-Romanee from its more muscular Gevrey neighbors. The tannins are gossamer-fine, barely perceptible, and the acidity is tensioned and precise, giving the wine a ferrous, pixelated quality on the finish that is strikingly energetic. The fruit is pure and cohesive, the texture silky and poised. A feminine, profoundly elegant grand cru that captures the very spirit of the Cote de Nuits at its finest.

The 2019 vintage

The 2019 Burgundy vintage was exceptional across the Cote de Nuits, producing wines that combined the warmth and generosity of the vintage with the precision and aromatic intensity that Vosne-Romanee's unique limestone and clay terroir demands. The growing season was characterized by early budbreak, warm summer temperatures, and a harvest that took place in ideal conditions. The resulting wines are richer and more expressive than many recent vintages while retaining the hallmark elegance and mineral depth of the appellation. For monopole sites like La Grande Rue, where the vineyard speaks directly through the wine, 2019 was a particularly compelling year.

About Domaine Nicole Lamarche (François Lamarche)

Domaine Lamarche, now led by Nicole Lamarche and her brother Francois, is the sole owner of La Grande Rue, one of Burgundy's most privileged addresses. The family has worked continuously to refine the estate's approach to viticulture and winemaking over recent decades, moving toward increasingly careful canopy management, lower yields, and gentle winemaking that allows the exceptional terroir of their holdings to speak without interference. La Grande Rue's unique position between Romanee-Conti and La Tache makes it one of Burgundy's most historically significant and geographically distinctive grand crus.

From the cellar: pair with

Roasted pigeon or squab with wild mushroom jus

The earthy, ferrous quality and delicate red fruit of the wine are a natural complement to the rich, gamey character of roasted pigeon.

Duck confit with cherry and herb reduction

The wine's floral aromatics and fine acidity cut beautifully through duck fat while the fruit echoes the cherry-based sauce.

Burgundy-style boeuf bourguignon

The wine's deep Vosne terroir notes and silky tannins align perfectly with the earthy, wine-braised depth of this classic preparation.
