Approaching Peak: drinkable, but best years are ahead.
In 2026 the wine is just entering its peak window. The dense fruit and firm tannins are softening, and secondary notes are beginning to emerge. Decant 90 minutes to 2 hours for best current expression. There are 10+ years of peak ahead before the wine begins to soften further.
The ‘17 Roberta's Reserve.
A Merlot-dominant State Lane Vineyard bottling from one of Yountville's most precise estates: dense, structured, and built for the long arc.

Tasting note
Deep ruby-purple, opaque core. The nose lifts with black plum, mulberry, and a polished cocoa-and-cedar edge from the new French oak. The palate is full-bodied with fine-grained tannins (7/10) and balanced acidity that keeps the rich fruit from becoming heavy. Black cherry, dark plum, and a subtle herbal undertow run through the mid-palate. The finish is long, polished, and finishes on a note of cocoa and warm stone.
The 2017 vintage
2017 in Napa Valley was a structured vintage despite the heat events late in the growing season, with top estates producing wines of density and aging potential. Yountville and the Stags Leap District in particular saw concentrated, age-worthy wines.

From the cellar: pair with
Grilled prime ribeye with herb butter
The wine's polished tannins and dark fruit meet the steak's char and richness; the herb butter softens the still-firm structure.
Braised lamb shank with rosemary jus
Long-cooked lamb's gaminess aligns with the wine's secondary herbal notes, and the rich jus mirrors the wine's depth.
Aged Manchego with marcona almonds
The cheese's saline density echoes the wine's structure, and the almond's nuttiness brings the cocoa-and-cedar edge forward.
