At Peak: in the heart of its drinking window (2019-2040).
In 2026 this 2016 Cros Parantoux sits at peak, in its early-to-mid drinking phase. The window opened back in 2017, but the wine has only recently grown into the generous, perfumed stride that defines its plateau. Expect prime drinking across 2019 to 2040, so a bottle pulled today shows fully resolved aromatics with years of cellar life still ahead. There is no rush. Hard decline does not arrive until around 2049, which leaves a long, forgiving runway. Opened now it rewards a slow decant and a wide glass, balancing immediate pleasure against the depth that more bottle age will keep adding through the 2030s.

Tasting note
This is a wine of perfume and tension rather than weight. The nose opens with deep, intense fragrance of dark fruits, violet, vibrant minerals and rich cherries, carrying an alluring sweetness and that inner-mouth perfume Cros Parantoux is prized for. On the palate it is opulent and structured, layering intense dark fruit and crushed-stone mineral flavors that are enlivened by brisk, persistent acidity. The acid registers high, an 8 of 10, and it is the engine here: it keeps the medium body (a 6) buoyant and drives a long, lifted finish. Tannins sit in the mid-range at 5 of 10, ripe and finely woven, present enough to frame the fruit and carry the wine forward without ever drying the close. The result is a Vosne-Romanee premier cru that feels both generous and precise, fruit and stone held in balance by acidity rather than power.
The 2016 vintage
The 2016 vintage in the Cote de Nuits was forged by a brutal late-April frost, on the nights of April 26 and 27, that scythed through the Cote d'Or and cut overall yields roughly in half. The vines that survived ripened slowly through a cool, dry, sunny end to the season, well into September. The reward for that hardship was a set of fresh, juicy and elegant reds with bright dark-fruit flavors, good color and well-balanced acidity rather than sheer power, exactly the profile that suits a high-acid, perfumed site like Cros Parantoux.
About Méo-Camuzet
Domaine Meo-Camuzet is a Vosne-Romanee estate now led by Jean-Nicolas Meo, who took the reins of direct production in 1989. Its sliver of Cros Parantoux premier cru sits high on the slope just above Richebourg, and for years the family's vines were rented out and farmed by the late Henri Jayer before Meo began vinifying them himself. That lineage of meticulous Vosne winemaking shows in the wine's clarity and lift.
From the cellar: pair with
Roast squab with beetroot and a red-wine jus
The mid-weight body (6) meets the bird without overwhelming it, the moderate tannin (5) handles the savory char, and the high acidity (8) cuts the sweet beetroot and rich jus.
Mushroom and thyme risotto finished with aged Comte
Earthy fungi echo the wine's mineral core while the medium body (6) stays in proportion to the dish; the bright acidity (8) lightens the creamy rice and the supple tannin (5) frames the nutty cheese.
Seared duck breast with a black-cherry reduction
The cherry sauce mirrors the wine's fruit, the ripe but moderate tannins (5) match duck's richness, and the persistent acidity (8) keeps each bite fresh against the fat carried by its mid-weight frame (6).
Service & cellaring
- Serving Temp
- 60-64F (16-18C)
- Decanting
- Decant 45 to 60 minutes before serving. At peak the aromatics are intense but tightly coiled on opening, and air lets the violet, dark cherry and mineral notes unfurl while softening the mid-weight tannins. Pour into large Burgundy bowls to gather the perfume.
- Cellar Storage
- 55F (13C), 60-70% humidity, bottle on its side.
The drinking window on this bottle is calculated with the Cellared Ageability Index (CAI) v1.0, a 10-factor model. Try the free drinking window calculator on any wine, or read when to drink wine for the practical signals.

Frequently Asked
When should I drink the 2016 Meo-Camuzet Cros Parantoux?
Now is an excellent time. In 2026 the wine is at peak in its early-to-mid phase, within a plateau that runs from 2019 to 2040. The window opened in 2017 and hard decline only sets in near 2049, so you can drink it today or hold it comfortably for another decade or more.
Should I decant this wine, and for how long?
Yes. Give it 45 to 60 minutes in a decanter before serving. At peak the perfume is intense but slow to open, so air coaxes out the violet, dark cherry and mineral aromatics and gently rounds the mid-range tannins. Serve in large Burgundy bowls at 60 to 64F to capture the inner-mouth perfume.
What food pairs best with it?
Reach for dishes that respect its medium body and high acidity: roast squab with beetroot, a mushroom and thyme risotto with aged Comte, or seared duck breast with a black-cherry reduction. The moderate tannins handle savory, gamey proteins while the brisk acidity cuts through richer sauces and keeps the plate fresh.
Can I keep cellaring it, or should I open it now?
Either works. With a peak plateau through 2040 and decline not arriving until around 2049, the wine has a long runway. Stored at 55F with 60-70% humidity and the bottle on its side, it will keep gaining depth into the 2030s. Open one now for the perfume and hold the rest if you want more secondary complexity.
